The City of Fayetteville’s Adopt a Street program is wonderful for individuals or groups wanting to give back to their community through a beautification program that removes litter from our streets. Litter is a problem for communities of all sizes, causing not only a beautification issue, but a safety issue. Only with the help of dedicated volunteers working together to ensure a city-wide litter prevention program can a community keep an environment clean and beautiful. The best litter prevention programs encourage collective responsibility for our environment, and the City of Fayetteville has achieved much success with the efforts of many volunteers in this program.
It is easy to register to be a part of this program. Simply sign up through our online registration form. Once we have received your registration information we will make a street sign displaying your individual or group/organization's name and place that sign at your designated street.
The requirements of those who adopt a street are to clean the streets at least quarterly each year. The Recycling and Trash Collection Division at the City of Fayetteville will provide materials and supplies (like trash bags, gloves, and safety vests). Please reach out to Faebyan Whittle to have your cleanup supplies prepared and ready for pickup at 1560 Happy Hollow Road.
An Activity Report Form is also included with the quarterly supplies for each street adopter for their convenience in reporting the adopter’s activity and assist the City in maintaining data on the amounts of litter collected and disposed of properly. There is also a Check List to make sure you have all you need to conduct a clean-up.
Currently there are 62 areas designated for cleaning, which comprises nearly 40 miles of streets in this litter prevention program.
