K9 Unit

The Fayetteville Police Department K9 Unit is comprised of two K9 teams, which are assigned to the Patrol Division. Each K9 team consists of a veteran patrol officer and their canine partner.

Purpose

The K9 teams were created to assist police personnel to track suspects, search for articles or evidence of a crime, conduct building searches, assist in the arrest or apprehension of felons, search for lost persons, and detect the presence of narcotics

Nationally Certified

The Fayetteville Police Department K9 teams are nationally certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA) in the detection of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and heroin. They are also certified in obedience and handler protection. The K9 team's service to the community and their fellow officers has proven to be invaluable.
