Hwy 62 (MLK Jr. Blvd) and Interstate 49 Trails

Hwy 62 and I-49 Interchange bike and pedestrian trail link project map

What is this project?

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is in design for a complete reconstruction of the interchange with I-49 and MLK Jr. Blvd. As part of the project, ARDOT has agreed to construct 10-foot-wide shared use path with 6 feet of green space from the east side of I-49 to the west project limits west of the Lowe’s west driveway. The trail bond funding in addition to grant funding will fund portions of the Tsa La Gi trail and the Shiloh Trail to tie the trails together through a cost share with ARDOT.

Why is It Important?

The interchange serves many popular destinations and will create a safe separated space for bicycles and pedestrians through the interchange to access these destinations.

What is the Current Status?

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is finalizing the design plans for the interchange, and the City has provided a layout of the proposed trail system.

When Will it be Completed?

ARDOT is moving quickly on this project and expects to have work begin in 2025.

How is it Funded?

Funding for the City’s portion of this project comes from the Bond issue that voters approved in April 2019. Funding through the federal aid Transportation Alternatives program may also be available.
