What is the Project?
Improvements to manage stormwater from north of Fairlane Street to McClinton Street (Ward 1), generally along Elmhurst Ave. Potential solutions could include the installation of a storm drainage system and improvements to the existing open channel to convey runoff safely through the area.
Why is it Important?
To alleviate flooding in several structures in the area from drainage that flows from the north. Flooding occurs due to a lack of adequate storm drainage system through the area. Runoff currently floods the neighborhood in the area of S Wood Avenue, E Fairlane Street, S Elmhurst Avenue, and E McClinton Street.
What is the Status?
Updated 8/23/2023
On October 1, 2019, a contract was approved with McClelland Engineers to proceed with a conceptual design identifying potential improvements to help alleviate flooding in the area. On May 21, 2020, this study was completed and identified multiple alternatives to both convey the water more efficiently, as well as reduce the peak flows in the area.
Easement acquisition has begun and 90% plans are almost complete.
How is it Funded?
Funding for this project comes from the Bond issue passed by voters in April, 2019.
