Swim Lessons

Fayetteville Parks and Recreation teaches hundreds of swim lessons every year.  These lessons are available to children and adults of all skill levels.

  • Lessons are 30 minutes in length and run in two week increments Monday - Thursday, with Friday reserved for weather related make-up sessions.
  • There are 5 sessions available throughout the summer.
  • Each session has 5 time options (9:45-10:15am, 10:20-10:50am, 11:00-11:30am, 4:45-5:15pm, or 5:20-5:50pm).
  • The cost is $50 for a 2 week session.
  • In order to maintain our instructor-to-swimmer ratio, swimmers will not be allowed to switch levels, unless space is available. Please make sure that your swimmer is being registered for the correct session, based on descriptions below.
  • Swimmers are not allowed to wear goggles during lessons.
  • Parents will not be allowed on shallow end of the deck, once lessons have started. This helps your little swimmer and our instructors focus on learning and developing good swim techniques. Parents are welcome to sit in the concession area or near the diving well during lessons.

Class Descriptions

Parent Tot (ages 6 months to 2 years)

The purpose of parent and child aquatics is to teach safe behaviors around the water and develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in, on or around water. We use a one instructor to 8 participant ratio for these classes. Remember both parent/guardian and little tot are in the water together.

Preschool (ages 3 & 4 years old)

Preschool aquatics aims to promote the developmentally appropriate learning of fundamental water safety and aquatic skills by young children. We use a one instructor to six swimmer ratio for these classes.

Level 1: (ages 5 & older)

Introduction to water skills. Orients participants to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills. Helps participants begin to develop positive attitudes and safe practices around water. Skills: put face in water, blow bubbles, stay under for 10 seconds. We use a one instructor to six swimmer ratio for these classes.

Level 2: (ages 5 & older)

Builds on the basic aquatic skills and water safety concepts learned in Level 1 Skills: Level 1 + flutter kick with feet, paddle with arms, float on back and stomach, jump into deep water. We use a one instructor to eight swimmer ratio for these classes.

Level 3: (ages 5 & older)

Comfortable in water and possesses basic abilities to swim. Skills: Level 2 + dive from side of pool, dive off board, display some form of elementary backstroke, front-crawl, back-crawl. We use a one instructor to eight swimmer ratio for these classes.

Private/Adult Swim Lessons

Private lessons are available, for both adults and children, during open swim times. Please register online for the time and date that works for you. You will be asked to private a few details about the swimmer's current ability level and goals. Our instructor will fill out an assessment form after each lesson for the swimmer's continued work and possible future lessons. Private classes are $30 per half hour.

Swim lesson registrations are non-refundable, unless otherwise approved by Program Manager.  Fees may be transferred and applied to another lesson slot, if space permits.  All transfers must fall within the same pool season.  All refunds will accrue a 10% administrative fee.
