2023 Water Restrictions

Voluntary Restrictions for Eastern Service Area Customers

To prevent summer time water shortages, customers east of Highway 265 and generally following the Highway 45 corridor (see map) are asked to restrict water use through activities including ornamental fountains, yard and landscaping irrigation, cleaning and washing. 

From July 7 through September 2023, the City asks residents to observe the following schedule for yard and landscaping irrigation:

  • Even House Address Numbers may irrigate between the hours of 11:00 pm and 3:00 am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
  •  Odd House Address Numbers may irrigate between the hours of 11:00 pm and 3:00 am on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Customers are encouraged to limit other water uses and consider shifting non-necessary water uses to time of day when demand is lower. 

Why is water restriction necessary?

Demands in the eastern portions of Fayetteville’s water system have resulted in water shortages during previous summers. To prevent a shortage this summer, we are requesting that residents in the affected areas restrict their water use. 

If voluntary restriction efforts are unsuccessful, mandatory restrictions will be enforced to prevent catastrophic loss of water, in compliance with City of Fayetteville’s Code of Ordinances Title V, Chapter 51.001 – Water Shortages (see ordinance).

How  does the City plan to address this issue?

The area east of Highway 265 and along the Highway 45 corridor has grown rapidly, creating increased demands on water service. The City of Fayetteville is working to meet this increased demand. 

New water tanks and water lines serving this area have been completed since 2020, and several additional water service improvement projects are either underway or being planned to address growth in the eastern service area. 

How are customers being notified of the voluntary restrictions?

Letters are being mailed to all customers, residential and commercial, in the areas where a shortage might happen if voluntary restrictions aren't observed (see map).
