City Seeks Public Input for Design of New Midtown Trail Corridor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville, with Olsson Engineering and Alta Design + Planning, is hosting a workshop and presentation to share information and collect feedback about designs for the Midtown Trail Corridor. A drop-in style workshop is on Wednesday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff will use public feedback to develop a draft plan and reveal that on Thursday, March 12. The Thursday meeting is from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with a presentation starting at 6 p.m. Both meetings are at Trinity United Methodist Church (1021 W. Sycamore Street near N. Garland Avenue). Razorback Transit Route 21 buses stop near the church.

The public can go online to drop a pin on an interactive map and give ideas via Speak Up Fayetteville. Residents can also reach out to the City’s trail coordinator, Matt Mihalevich, by email or telephone 479-444-3416.

This Midtown Trail Corridor is mostly flat and includes sections of Porter Road, Deane Street, Garland Avenue, Sycamore Street, Poplar Street, and Woodland Avenue. The trail corridor is an important east-west route that connects neighborhoods west of I-49, intersects with the Razorback Greenway, and links to N. College Avenue. Additional links include Gregory Park and Woodland Junior High School.

The project is one of many transportation improvements identified in the Fayetteville Mobility Plan, completed in 2018. Design and construction of the Midtown Trail Corridor will be partially
funded with bond monies approved by voters in April 2019. Construction of the Midtown Trail Corridor will begin in 2021 and combined with street and drainage improvements.
