West Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project to Begin Oct. 12, With Road Closures

 
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — On October 12, the City of Fayetteville and Nabholz Construction will begin work on a series of improvements to S. West Avenue between South St. and Meadow St. that will necessitate road closures over the next several months.  The work is part of the Cultural Arts Corridor project, which was approved by voters in 2019, and will include street improvements as well as a new sidewalks, street trees, stormwater planters, seating, street lighting and bicycle connections. 
 
Improvements along S. West Ave will be done in phases.  During the first phase, beginning October 12, West Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from South St. to Mountain St. Homeowners in the work area will have access to their homes, but all other traffic will detour via S. School Avenue. The work on this section is expected to take approximately four to six months to complete.

During construction, residents inside the work area may continue to park on the street, but may be asked to move their cars for a few days when the work reaches their home. Nabholz Construction, the project’s Construction Manager, will coordinate any parking concerns.
 
The West Avenue Streetscapes Improvement project is just one part of the Cultural Arts Corridor project, which broke ground last month.  The project also includes improvements to Fay Jones Woodland, a replacement parking deck on Dickson St., trail improvements to the Razorback Greenway, and an outdoor civic space at West Avenue and Dickson.  The Cultural Arts Corridor project was approved by Fayetteville residents as part of the April 2019 sales tax bond election.
