City of Fayetteville Calls for Public Comment on Mission Blvd. Corridor Improvements

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The City of Fayetteville is seeking input on the preliminary design plans for the Mission Blvd. Corridor improvements.  This project is part of the voter-approved bond for street and trail improvements, which passed in 2019.

The project includes enhancing a 1.5-mile section of Mission Blvd. from Viewpoint Drive southwest to Maple Street. The focus of the project is to extend an existing half-mile section of shared-use paved trail to tie in with the trail along Old Wire Rd. and provide a safe and comfortable route for walking and biking.  The trail is planned to travel along the east side of Mission Blvd. in front of Root Elementary School, extending past Old Wire Road and North Street. South of North Street, the trail is planned to continue along the west side of Mission Blvd., ending at Maple Street to connect to the historic district and to downtown.

The trail is designed to be separated from the roadway, with a new curb and a 6-foot-wide greenspace that will include light poles as well as street trees for improved aesthetics and to serve as buffer for the trail.  A roundabout is planned at the North Street intersection to relieve automobile traffic congestion while providing improved crosswalks for the sidewalks and trail.  Multiple additional crosswalks are planned along the corridor with user-activated flashing yellow lights for safe access to the trail from the adjacent neighborhoods.  The project will be constructed primarily within the existing public right-of-way.
