Fayetteville announces ‘Pick Up Where You Play’
litter supply, T-shirt giveaway
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The City of Fayetteville is inviting residents to get outside Saturday, Sept. 18, and help keep our parks, trails and waterways clean as part of the second annual Pick Up Where You Play, a series of litter cleanups taking place over the next few weeks.
The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Boston Mountain Solid Waste District and several local organizations have partnered to host cleanups during most weekends through the end of October. Other participating cities include Bentonville, Elkins, Farmington, Greenland, Prairie Grove, Rogers and Springdale.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, the City of Fayetteville will host a drive-through giveaway at the Parks and Recreation office building, 1455 S. Happy Hollow Road, handing out 50 litter-grabbers and 300 T-shirts on a first-come basis. Staff also will hand out bags and gloves for litter collection.
Any litter collected in parks and on trails may be placed in or next to facility trash cans. Participants who complete a litter cleanup elsewhere may bring bags back to the Parks and Recreation parking lot by 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
A Facebook event page has been created for those wishing to participate and share. It includes a list of other cleanup events in the area through October.
Pick Up Where You Play began in 2020 in response to an increase of visitors to outdoor spaces during the pandemic. The weather is beautiful this time of year, and Fayetteville parks, trails and waterways could use some love after another busy summer of outdoor activities.
