City Launches Modern, Redesigned Website
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Today the City launched a new, redesigned website at www.fayetteville-ar.gov. Users can expect to see a modern design complemented by video banners, updated graphic buttons and a new layout. The new website comes as the City is increasing its efforts to create a cohesive, familiar brand through photography, color palette and logo selection.
“Fayetteville is a forward-thinking community and it’s important that our technology presence reflects that,” said Susan Norton, director of communications. “We have an abundance of tech-savvy residents who expect to find reliable, well-curated content through this platform. Transparency is our priority.”
The navigation of the site was a focus in 2016, and an emphasis was placed on prioritizing content based on analytics, which will be reflected on the new site. The same navigational elements of the old site will still be available on the home page of the new site, except in a fresher, roomier arrangement.
“Through analytics, we can see more than 60 percent of our visitors come from outside the City,” Norton said. “It was important for us to build a site that not only makes it easy to access the basic services for residents but also serves as an inviting front door for visitors.”
The new site was designed with accessibility standards in mind when selecting elements such as color and font. In the last year, the City has focused on improving its compliance with Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), which set standards for optimizing the web experience for people with disabilities.
The website is a constant work in progress – content is being added and updated every day. As technology evolves, so will the City’s website. Users are encouraged to explore the new website and sign up to receive notifications when items such as media releases or road closures are added.
