FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— Chloeta Fire, LLC, an experienced and trained burn contractor, will conduct a prescribed burn along the west side of the Lake Fayetteville dam under supervision of the City of Fayetteville’s Utilities and Parks Departments. Set up will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a 30-minute burn time starting at 12 p.m. The entire process should take approximately two hours to complete.
 
The dam section of the Lake Fayetteville Trail will be closed during the burn process and City staff will be present at both ends of the dam to direct trail users. Prescribed burns depend on optimal weather conditions; today’s weather fits those conditions
 
The City of Fayetteville, City of Springdale, and City of Johnson Fire Departments have been notified and are on standby status to assist, if needed. Once the prescribed burn has been completed, the burn crew will assure that all sparks and embers have been fully extinguished.
 
The purpose of the prescribed burn is to eliminate vegetation that prevents thorough inspections of the dam and the wetland area below it. The Lake Fayetteville dam is classified as a high-risk dam by the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC). This classification is given to all dams in the state that would have a loss of human life if they were to fail. To ensure the safety of the citizens downstream of the dam, the City of Fayetteville conducts rigorous inspections to maintain the integrity of the dam.
